Pasadena, Calif. January 16, 2019 — Southern California Public Radio’s flagship station, KPCC, has today announced Public Radio Palooza, a year-long Los Angeles event series dedicated to celebrating the power of public radio as a source of entertainment and impartial community-based reporting. Throughout 2020, KPCC will present live shows featuring the crème de la crème of public radio, including Ira Glass, Jad Abumrad, Peter Sagal, Brooke Gladstone, Kai Ryssdal and more. Public Radio Palooza will also host the exclusive Los Angeles premiere of “Och And Oy! A Considered Cabaret,” an evening of stories and song with Tony Award-winning and Emmy Award-nominated actor Alan Cumming and NPR’s Ari Shapiro.
“Public media plays an important role in serving the community, not only with reporting on the most important issues of the day, but also with programming that entertains. As we enter this new decade and a year during which this service will play a pivotal role in keeping listeners informed, Public Radio Palooza is our toast to all of the things that make this medium special and our loyal listeners that have helped build KPCC into a Southern California institution,” said Herb Scannell, CEO, Southern California Public Radio. “It’s fitting that we kick off the festivities with our very own Larry Mantle, whose show ‘AirTalk’ holds the title for longest-running daily talk program on air in Los Angeles and has been a flagship of KPCC’s schedule for several decades.”
